I watch this whenever I have the chance.
I have watched this video a couple of times before reviewing it, in the hopes that I could maybe derive a more stable point of view as compared to some of the other people that have reviewed it.
I, personally, believe Quick Man is the coolest Robot Master. Hes my all time favorite. Hes Fast. That, in of itself, is pretty badass. Im glad that out of all the spooty robots CAPCOM has dished out, it was my most perefered that got the spotlight. Whenever I play Mega Man II, not only is Quick Man the first stage I head on to, but I always visualize the boss fight like this. Im glad somebody took the time to make a decent NON-SPRITE fight between "Captain Q" and "The Blue Bomber". Its really sorta a dissapointment for me when I see one of my favorite games having a tribute in sprites, when the game itself is in sprites. If I wanna see Mega Man fight Crash Man, then I'll play Mega Man II. If I wanna see an amazing flashy, drawn out uber-clash, I'll watch this video.
So top score for the idea all together.
I think the attidude you presented Quick man with was spot on. Fast, Agile, Confident, doesn't take your shit, and he even has that little pinch of stude that hes taunting you without even doing anything except running. I was hoping he would maybe do more flipping around like a ninja on crack, though. Just going bonkers with speed :D Whatever, though, right? He was pretty awesome just zomming about. Same thing goes for Mega Man. He was addresses with the correct style, as well. Im not going into detail about him, though, because hes the main character. Everybody pretty much has the idea on what hes like. Quick Man, however, however is fun to watch because in the game, hes somewhat of a silly character, and nobody seems to take him seriously.
The quality of the flash was just fine. SOME aspects of the style could have been better, but it was good enough as it is that id have more that one leg to stand on, and should not really even be brought up...even though I just did. The music was grand. Mona Lisa Overdrive, the song being played, is my favorite track on The Matrix Reloaded soundtrack, wich makes this video even more win than this already is. I'll admit, I was hoping that there would be an outstanding remix of the Quick Man stage theme playing, instead. Hell, Even including the level itself would have been cool. Mega Man hopping about dodging lasers and such, then followed by the ending battle. It would have given a more hardened quest kind of feel trying to get to the final fight with Quick Man. Maybe its just me. Still, The flash is fine as it is.
I dont mind the references to the other Mega Man games, such as his Mega Buster, his Mega Max X look, or even the fact he was bleeding. I liked that he was bleeding because it gave a realistic look to things. More vaunerable. More fragile. More "insert word here". Everything else was, to me, just an original mixture of given pieces form other games. They were little enough th not matter in the long run. Like you said though, its artists liberties. You can make it however you want, and unless the people harshly criticizing you are doing any better, they have no room to talk.
It has been 10, almost 11, years since you first posted this, and accounting for the time put into writing and animating it, it goes beack further. Now with your new experiences in flash, I think it would be incredible for you to make a revamped version, showing everybody how far and well you have come into the FMB ( Flash Making Business). Its up to you, but if your interested, give me a shout. I would love to help out, or at least be on the know.
Once again, great flash, my friend. Very nice. And if its any conselation, I dont review flash like this or anywhere near this long unless I really like it, and I REALL LIKE THIS. It appears Im alost completely out of letters for this review. Anyways, great entertainment right here.
Look at that, Ive used all the available characters on this. 4 2
